being a symbrock fan who's friends with like, normal Spider-Man fans is so funny cause like. you get to hear their expectations for Venom 3. "I hope they have a canon Spider-Man!" "I hope it's rated R!" yeah well I hope they elope in Vegas at a 24-hour wedding chapel and their marriage is officiated by a Prince impersonator. their wedding rings cost no more than 400 dollars and when venom kisses the groom there's so much tongue that both Eddie and the court-appointed witness get lightheaded

How are the more recent Dracula castings affecting the movie?

When we last left off, Jimmy Stewart (Jonathan) had just beheld Mary Philbin (the agonized woman) getting eaten by wolves. (this being a vintage film we do not actually see her get eaten. we are given a haunting image that subtly conveys her getting eaten which is somehow ten times worse). He stares, shocked and bereft, out his lonely black-and-white window in Castle Dracula. The movie has gotten very solemn and a little bit artistic.

SMASH CUT to Omar Sharif (!!) and Leonard Nimoy (?????) on board the Demeter! Omar Sharif makes total sense for this role and is conveying responsibility, stoicism, nobility. Leonard Nimoy is thanking god and his agent that he finally got onto a film that doesn't have him in the pointy ears. (he is still contractually obligated to call the strange cargo they have on board "fascinating.")

Back in England, our heroines Setsuko Hara (Mina Murray) and Judy Garland (Lucy Westenra) are sitting by the seaside cemetery, enjoying the ramblings of old seaman Mr. Swales. because Mr. Swales is played by Ed Wynn, this is less "crusty old sea man giving bram stoker's idea of a British dialect" and more "the movie is suddenly produced by Disney in the 1960s and everyone is having a GRAND time because this man is Silly™." his various tales of suicides, deaths at sea, child abuse, and familial hatred are all suddenly very harmless and cute and Setsuko Hara is wondering where all the Technicolor came from.

Back in Hell on the Demeter, the movie is sliding back into black and white as the fog gets thick and the crew is picked off one by one. Omar Sharif is shooting for an Oscar with this one. He is terrified stoicism personified. Leonard Nimoy has hit his stride and is doing that brand of feverish madness the amok time fans know so well. We catch a shot or two of Gloria Holden's Count, but she is mostly veiled in mystery.

In Whitby, a plucky reporter sees a ship coming in: Ethel Waters is on the case! You know if anybody is going to book it on to a ship with a corpse tied to it (rip Omar) with 0 issues, it's going to be her. She's after a story, by god, never mind that mysterious dog!

Speaking of that mysterious dog, it's headed up the hill toward the cemetery. Boy, I hope it doesn't run into Mr. Swales. Seeing an Ed Wynn character get killed off in gruesome fashion this early in the movie would be a pretty horrifying tonal switch! I'm sure he'll be fine though, the movie seems so lighthearted and comedic now :)

one of the most terrifying moments of my life was when I was eating a salad with cilantro with it, and for the briefest of moments, nary two full seconds, something in my tastebuds shifted and I suddenly understood how cilantro could taste like soap to people. I briefly wondered if I had somehow activated the cilantro soap gene like a sleeper agent in my DNA. but then the moment passed and the cilantro tasted normal again.

chappell roan's recent statement about parasocial relationships should really open the door to the conversation about how fandoms suffer from the exact same types of behaviors

if there's a very influential artist or member of a fandom it seems like people forget to treat them like a person. It's okay to like their art. It's okay to rally behind their takes or ship headcanons. It's not okay to practically worship the ground they walk on and shower them with constant praise.

On the other side of that coin I believe it's also up to those people with a decent amount of influence in fandom spaces to set boundaries when things start getting weird— especially in fandoms geared towards younger audiences. As an adult you shouldn't be relying on your dopamine hit of positive feedback from minors. You shouldn't be engaging with them in dms where there's a weird power dynamic if you know for a fact that they see you as some sort of higher figure of influence.

We all need to work on making parasocial relationships less common, both in regards to celebrities and in fandom spaces in general

the place im supposed to have my shunt implanted got back with us…. i have an appointment next wednesday. packing extra stuff in the case they decide to admit me and go ahead and do the surgery. id be lying if i said i wasnt nervous… sure, itll be nice to have some relief but… idk. its terrifying. on one hand ill feel better, but on the other? idk. ive lived my life like this for so long. its going to be weird.

ok ok so my professor came up to me before class a few weeks ago and i was a little worried when she brought up the short writing assignment I did the day before on Unpacking but after I confirmed that I wrote it she smiled and told me how a guest lecturer was going to take up that exact game as part of their lectures on LGBTQ+ videogames and I shit you not I was so excited.

SO flash forward to now and that guest prof just finished their intro lecture, mentioning how their next one will actually focus on the game. After the lecture I walk up to them in all my youtuber merch glory, introduce myself, mention the writing assignment (which apparently the guest prof already knew about bc my prof told them??? crazy) and the prof asks me what I think about the game, and I think they were kinda hinting about the ex-boyfriend's room and how they were going to discuss the story implications of it???

but apparently I was one step ahead of them and told the prof about how I was inspired from a "streamer I watched" (cough RTGame cough) and how I've found that level 100% more enjoyable when I stopped giving a shit and just messed with the boyfriend's shit, inconveniencing him however possible and guys. GUYS.

the way the professor's eyes LIT UP dude, they even giggled when I told them about folding the boyfriend's fancy suits and placing his coffee shit on the highest shelf, and they told me that they were going to open their game just to replay that level and try what I did and man. MAN.

this lecturer has no involvement with my actual grade, but I definitely feel like I just got an A+ in making that prof's DAY.
